After sleeping through the night, your foot and calf muscles are naturally tighter, which can cause temporary discomfort in the morning. If your foot pain is more severe and isn’t temporary, it may be caused by plantar fasciitis, tendonitis, or a stress fracture. Athletes, runners, dancers, and overweight people are at higher risk of foot injury. Treatments usually range from rehabilitation, stretching, cold compresses, medications… but it will be your doctor who decides what you should do to improve your condition and take care of your feet.
When your feet hurt as you get up
- But there are people who feel pain in their feet when they get up in the morning, because sometimes putting your foot on the ground can be torture. When this happens it may be due to plantar fasciitis and what it feels like is intense and immediate pain as soon as you get up in the morning. Although there are also people who can experience this pain throughout the day and it only stops when there is no pressure on the foot.
- The pain caused by arthritis is due to a degeneration of the cartilage between the bones of the foot. If the degeneration is of the tendons, it will be due to tendonitis – which can occur with considerable weight gain. A stress fracture of the foot is when one of the metatarsal bones has cracks from overuse – and it occurs mostly in athletes. But remember that it can also be caused by plantar fasciitis or some type of injury.
- In order to cope with this situation, you will have to look for ways to alleviate the pain associated with arthritis, plantar fasciitis, tendinitis or whatever the cause is in your life. You can stretch or massage your calf and foot before getting out of bed and before you walk. You can do this by placing your foot on a tennis ball and slowly moving your foot over the ball. If what you have is a fracture or an injury, it should be your doctor who decides what you should do in order to heal as soon as possible.
